A few years ago I was looking for a really special outfit for me to wear to a friends wedding. Unable to find anything suitable in the UK, I sent some money to my sister in West Africa (Gambia) to make the dress of my dreams for the wedding.
Unfortunately, it took four months to arrive, cost me over £200 and even worse, didn’t fit. I was so disappointed and after chatting to some of my friends, it became clear that they had had similar experiences.
Typically, is very difficult to attain traditional West African clothing in high street shops around the UK, so the importers that do bring them to Europe always retail them at a very high price.
From this experience, the idea for African Trends was born. My desire was to establish a UK based, online boutique for African clothing, fabrics, accessories and hair extensions. My products would be at affordable, realistic prices and cater for all those Africans who want to wear latest home style clothing, but don’t want to pay extortionate prices. I also want to cater for every web user who wants to experience and enjoy the latest African styles and trends. My main designs within African Trends are influenced by West African styling and I welcome enquiries from both wholesale and retail customers.
